Your role in Guild Wars 3 is a Vaelwarden. The official site calls this a guardian of the land of Orr, protector of the people and spirits that call Orr home.
ArenaNet describes the Vaelwarden as part of an adventurers' guild dedicated to preserving and protecting the wild's spirits and Orr itself.
ArenaNet identifies the Vaelwardens' guild as the Order of the Vael in its June 11 setting post. At the story's start, the Order is on the back foot while tensions grow between rival guilds before the First Guild War. Most people cannot access magic in this era; only guilds selected by the high council and human gods are entrusted with it, giving a guild's standing real weight.
ArenaNet describes it as “a story about Orr, about the people who live there, and about a guild trying to find its place in a world that’s full of opportunity, tension, and change.”

Each Vaelwarden has a Seeker. ArenaNet calls it both a connection to the spirits of Orr and a mount. The Seeker therefore has two roles: a story connection to the spirits you protect and the creature you ride within the momentum movement system.
See how riding works within the movement system on the gameplay page.
